5TH MTB MEETING OF ANDORRA ROAD
We leave the chronicle of the trip by Chimo.
On Saturday night we went to a small village of Alt Urgell, Aravell, where we had rented the farmhouse Cal Gol for the night. Upon arrival, Lourdes received us very kindly and she really paid attention to us throughout the entire stay. On Sunday at 9:30 we had met with the other three groups: three of Girona (Juan, Sergio and Juan), two of Lleida (Francisco and a friend) and three in San Cugat (Carlos, Chema and Caesar), which added to us, the 4 that came on behalf of Colegio Mayor Pedralbes (Chimo, Edu, Jose and Jose Maria).
The starting point was the golf Aravell where we started shooting towards Bellestar. The stretch of climb was about 10 kms, where we cross the road walk up to Cal Roger. As we were going up we could see the Segre valley bordering the northern slopes of the Sierra del Moixeró. When we got to the Collada de la Torre Mountain (the highest point of the day with 1,611 m) we stopped to eat. There we had a great time with the anecdotes of the rise and we also regained strength. After about 45 minutes of rest we continue the route.
We began the descent on the other side of the mountain that would lead us after a flat stretch to the point of beginning. During the descent we could see the view from the northern part of the mountain, like the Andorran Pyrenees and some landmarks of the Road of Andorra such as Cabra Morta ravine. The landscape and environment were typical of the best Pyrenean postcard: we pass cows and horses, streams and lush forests. Once we got to the bed of Valira we follow the GR-7 to ascend slightly Anserall where we find the Borda chain and cross the reservoir of Montferrer and Castellbò. Shortly after, we were in Bellestar, a few kilometres away from where we had started the expedition.
Upon arriving, we went to the farmhouse where we could eat and enjoy a good conversation with the other participants about the different experiences of the day. We all had the same conclusion: we have to repeat these routes along the Road of Andorra! And so appears the idea of making a complete journey mountain bike all the way: we hope that this initiative will see the light next summer. We will keep you posted!
